Tucked away in the world of microbes and plant life lies pyrroloquinoline quinone, otherwise known as PQQ. This fascinating molecule, though not technically a vitamin, has captured the attention of researchers for its potential role in promoting longevity. Found naturally in kiwi fruit, natto (fermented soybeans), and even green tea, PQQ boasts a unique ability to act as both an antioxidant and a coenzyme.

As an antioxidant, PQQ combats free radicals, those unstable molecules that damage cells and contribute to the aging process. PQQ's coenzyme function shines a light on its potential cellular benefits. It plays a critical role in mitochondrial health, the powerhouses within our cells. By supporting mitochondrial function, PQQ may contribute to improved energy production and cellular protection, potentially leading to a healthier and potentially longer lifespan.

The intrigue surrounding PQQ as a longevity aid stems from studies conducted on roundworms, a favorite model organism in aging research. When supplemented with PQQ, these roundworms exhibited a significant lifespan extension. While translating these findings directly to humans requires further research, the results have sparked scientific interest in exploring PQQ's potential to combat age-related decline.

5 potential Effects of PQQ

Each is linked to a clinical study.

Antioxidant Properties

PQQ exhibits potent antioxidant activity, which helps neutralize harmful free radicals in the body

Mitochondrial Support

PQQ plays a role in mitochondrial function, the energy-producing organelles within cells. It promotes the biogenesis of mitochondria and enhances their efficiency

Neuroprotection

Shown promise in protecting brain cells from oxidative damage and inflammation, which are implicated in neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases

Cardioprotective Effects

It may help reduce risk factors for heart disease by lowering blood pressure, improving lipid profiles (such as cholesterol and triglyceride levels), and reducing inflammation

Anti-Aging Properties

What is PQQ and why do I need it?

PQQ, which stands for Pyrroloquinoline quinone, is a compound that acts as a cofactor for enzymes in the body. It is often touted for its potential health benefits, particularly in relation to mitochondrial function and overall energy production. Here's why you might consider it:

  • Mitochondrial Support: PQQ has been studied for its role in supporting mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of cells, responsible for generating energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). PQQ may help optimize mitochondrial function, which could potentially lead to increased energy levels and overall cellular health.
  • Antioxidant Properties: PQQ also exhibits antioxidant properties, meaning it can help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. This antioxidant activity may contribute to its potential health benefits, including protecting cells from oxidative stress and reducing inflammation.
  • Neuroprotective Effects: Some research suggests that PQQ may have neuroprotective effects, potentially helping to support brain health and cognitive function. It has been studied for its potential role in reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
  • Cardiovascular Health: There is some evidence to suggest that PQQ may benefit cardiovascular health by helping to improve cholesterol levels, reduce inflammation, and support healthy blood vessel function.
  • Anti-aging: Due to its role in mitochondrial function and antioxidant activity, PQQ has been explored for its potential anti-aging effects. By supporting cellular energy production and reducing oxidative stress, PQQ may help slow down the aging process and promote longevity.

Very good PQQ product.
I will add a Resveratrol order next time so that I use PQQ and Resveratrol.
It is nice that Charava has the products with no mixed ingredients or fillers.
